During the winter months, SBCSA introduces members to the art of boatbuilding using a variety of construction methods, building techniques, and other skills. No prior boat building knowledge is required. Basic woodworking skills are helpful but not necessary. Completed boats are raffled off or sold and proceeds support the SBCSA’s youth and adult sailing programs.

This season, the boatbuilding class will complete the hybrid 20’ Osprey triple cockpit kayak from Pygmy that was started in 2018 and continue working on two solo sailing canoes. In addition to continuing work on these boats, there is always routine maintenance to be done for the fleet of training boats used for youth and adult sailing lessons.

To participate in boatbuilding class, you must be a current SBCSA member and pay a $70 materials fee. Youth are welcome to join. Youth ages 12-15 must attend with an adult. Youth ages 16-17 may attend alone with parent/guardian permission. REGISTRATION IS DUE BEFORE FRIDAY, JANUARY 4, 2019. Sign up here!
